To whom It May Concern
I was born 25th August 1958 at Tallangatta Victoria and lived/worked on my family's farm in country Victoria and southern New South Wales until the age of 23 when I moved to Melbourne.
After 8 enjoyable years in Melbourne, I married and settled in Adelaide. In 1994 we moved to Berri in the Riverland of South Australia and 3 years later returned to Adelaide where we purchased a house in Westbourne Park.
I am a predominately self-taught artist by way of studying art books, magazines, visiting galleries throughout Australian and Europe and meeting with artists.
Although my ambition to paint has been with me since my early school days it was not until we moved to the Riverland that I began painting regularly. In 1995 my work was selected to be part of the South Australian Country Arts traveling exhibition and while living in Berri I was a founding member involved in establishing the Riverland Gallery.
My paintings have been hung in the Alice Bale Art Award on three occasions out of my five attempts. My 2003 entry in the Alice Bale Art Award was accepted and it was also chosen as a finalist in the Australian Artist magazine – Still Life & Floral competition.
In 2002 my three entries in the Victor Harbor Art Show sold, one of them receiving a Highly Commended from the judge Barbara McManus.
Unfortunately for my painting ambitions, from 2005 to 2023 my hectic role within large engineering firms would see me with precious little time or capacity for creativity and painting.
In 2023 I took an early retirement to complete my studio at home and to finally pursue my life long ambition to become an artist, a burning ambition that would not go away. |
