ARTIST BIO

Rita Bellati is a visual artist living and working on Kaurna Land, Adelaide. She completed Bachelor of Visual Arts at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2022, obtaining distinctions in all final grades.

Since graduation, Bellati has extended her studio practice by participating in Oil Painting open studios and an Etching and Intaglio Printmaking course at Adelaide Central School of Art to consolidate and learn new techniques of artistic expression.

Whilst currently predominantly working in painting, her work has also included textile sculptures and cast glass.

She was shortlisted for the West Torrens Art Prize in 2023 and was privately commissioned for an oil painting. Through sensitive use of colour and light, Bellati creates atmospheric paintings that invite a sense of enchantment within her work.

Bellati’s work could be described as an exploration of the natural environment. She is particularly interested in the energetic nature of matter and highlighting a sense of agency and interconnectedness in the world around her. Rocks and the mineral world often feature in her work, drawing attention to primordial matter and the idea of deep time. Her work is informed by studies of animism and New Materialisms.

As an emerging artist, Bellati is continuing to research and engage in her studio practice to create bodies of work that best express her interest in the energies and relationships of matter within the natural environment. Her aim is to refine and extend her practice to exhibit future work.
