ARTIST BIO

Michael A P Taylor is an amateur artist who has been studying under well-known Willunga artist Lesley Redgate since 2019. He returned to art in his retirement after an absence of over 50 years and following a career in academia and CSIRO. He is a professional engineer, specialising in transport engineering, and is an Emeritus Professor at the University of South Australia. His painting passion is landscapes, and this has been fortified by his ‘sea change’ in 2018 with a move to Hindmarsh Island near the Murray Mouth. His inspiration comes from the French Impressionists and for a more modern perspective from his mentor, Lesley Redgate. The combination of sky, sea and coastal land, and the influences of the weather on those, are of particular interest to him. The windswept beauty of the South Coast juxtaposed with the urban communities of the Fleurieu Peninsula provide the main topics for his current work.
