ARTIST BIO

Jill studied Stage Design at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney where she first started learning about scenic art and painting on various surfaces. Since graduating as a Stage Designer from NIDA in 1980, Jill has designed many sets, props and costumes throughout Australia. She's also studied Applied Design - Interactive Multimedia, and did post graduate studies in Festival and Event Management & Design at Flinders University. All these studies enriched her passion for the creative arts.

It was only in mid 2022 she started painting canvasses which she embraced. Early in 2023 she and her sister joined forces to have their first exhibition of stylised, semi-abstract landscapes which was well received.

Jill successfully entered artworks in various exhibitions in South Australia throughout 2023, including Pepper Street's Fringe Art Exhibition and Pepper Street's SALA Exhibition. She was also fortunate in being nominated as a FINALIST in the 2023 'All Connections to Unley' Art Prize, and was also Shotlisted in the 'West Torrens Art Prize' 2023. In the latter half of 2023 Jill once again exhibited with her sister at Gallery 54 in Penola, SA.

Jill enjoys painting stylised, semi-abstract evocative interpretations of the world around her, focussing on shapes, minimal line and crisp, bold colours. She enjoys the work of many artists, including ( but certainly not limited to) such artists as Picasso, Van Gough, Kandinsky, Arnold Topp and Saul Steinberg.
